Sami Khedira Hits Back At Emre Can Contract Reports

Sami Khedira has dismissed claims that he inadvertently revealed Emre Can would join him at Juventus next season.

Can will be out of contract at the end of the current campaign and is yet to decide whether to remain at Liverpool or leave on a free transfer.

Juventus are understood to be leading the race to sign Can, continuing a trend of free deals in recent years that includes Dani Alves, Paul Pogba and Khedira.

And last week, Can played down suggestions he wanted over £200,000-a-week from Liverpool to stay.

And Reds boss Jurgen Klopp expressed his hope that Can will sign a new deal.

But a report in ESPN said “all signs are pointing to the 24-year-old signing with Juventus despite interest from other top clubs" with the source of the information being Khedira, Can's Germany team-mate.

However, Khedira has responded on Twitter, denying any knowledge of Can’s decision and calling the report “#fakenews”.

Khedira tweeted: “A Sports Illustrated source heard me confirm Emre Can is coming to @juventusfc this summer.

“Only one possible explanation: I am having a secret twin brother. I don't know what Emre will do next season…”

Can, who has made 37 appearances this season, missed Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Champions League due to a back injury.

But he could return for Saturday’s Merseyside derby against Everton.
