Arsenal Ace Aubameyang Reveals Why Lacazette Took Second Penalty In 3-0 Stoke Win

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had no qualms about Alexandre Lacazette taking Arsenal’s second penalty in the win against Stoke City despite being on for a hat-trick.

Aubameyang had fired the Gunners into a two-goal lead and was expected to step up when Lacazette was felled inside the box at the death.

But the France international - making his first appearance after spending six weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury- dusted himself down to fire past Stoke keeper Jack Butland.

Aubameyang said: “I know Alexandre Lacazette is back and I had scored twice already so I knew it would be good for his confidence.”

Arsene Wenger praised Aubameyang for his “generous” gesture.

The Arsenal boss said: “I like that. I think strikers who are generous is a rarity and when you see that you know it will make the team much better.”

Arsenal toiled for most of the game against Stoke before Mesut Ozil was tripped by Bruno Martins Indi in the penalty area on 76 minutes.

Aubameyang fired home from the spot to break the deadlock before doubling the lead 10 minutes later with a sharp strike from 10 yards out.

The January signing missed a penalty in the 3-0 defeat To Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium last month and was nervous before finishing from the spot.

“I felt a little bit under pressure but I was just thinking I had to score and I needed to focus,” he said.

Stoke caused plenty of problems for Arsenal and Aubameyang was not surprised by the Gunners’ sluggish performance.

“It was not easy,” he said.

“It is not always easy after an international break. We did a good job.”
